Another Planetary Annihilation internal playtest from the Uber developers. Not too many new features, but the bandwidth improvements are a pretty big deal.

  • As the title of this Planetary Annihilation playtest says, there have been bandwidth improvements. That isn’t a change we can see, but it is very good news for players with slow internet connections.
  • The economy bar looks different. The numbers have a slight glow to them.
  • The build bar for when a building is under construction now changes from red to yellow, to green throughout the building process. That allows players to more easily see the progress of a building under construction.
  • The game seems to look nicer. Everything seems sharper and the shadows seem nicer.
  • Anchors can shoot at and hit air units. That’s pretty cool.
  • Even though it isn’t new, the burning trees still look amazing.
  • Even though meta was hurting for metal, he never reclaimed trees. Interesting.
  • The new Gil-E sniper bot model looks kinda cool.
  • Currently advanced metal extractors produce 24 metal per second, but are very expensive to build. They take 2 minutes to recoup the metal investment.
  • The AI was being pretty stupid and moving in units to with range of the Leveler, and then turning around before they got into range. So Meta was killing AI units pretty much for free.
  • Meta stepped away from the computer mid match…
  • If you don’t have Umbrellas in your base, or Anchors above your base, you’re going to have a bad time… The ground shooting anchors can destroy a base in no time.
  • Since anchors can shoot at the ground, they are incredible defensive structures. They are very useful for protecting the orbital and ground layer. They can’t destroy an entire attacking army with ease, but they can thin out an incoming army pretty effectively. And since the attacking army can’t shoot at them, then they’re pretty effective.
  • Anchors bombarding a planet look pretty stinkin awesome.
  • The new area build for anti-nukes and Umbrellas is awesome. You can have them cover an entire planet in nothing flat.
  • Sending a planet to annihilate a planet that orbits it simply doesn’t work. Don’t give a planet the ability to be smashed if planets orbit it.
  • The match ended with a server crash. 🙁
