Info

Gunships are glass cannon fast attack aircraft. They are fast, high damage, and very vulnerable to anti-air units and buildings. Gunships are ideal for raids, quick defense, and destroying outlying metal extractors.

Gunships must be built by an Advanced Air Factory.

History

Due to their popularity in Supreme Commander, Gunships were frequently requested by the Planetary Annihilation community and finally added into the game. They were in the game files, but unplayable, for quite some time during the game beta.

First Gunship Model

Gunships were added in Build 59549. When added, they had a generic, but unique, model.

The Gunship model was revealed on the February 4th, 2014 Internal Playtest.

In the Planetary Annihilation Build 61250, several changes were made.

  • Name was changed from “Gunship” to “Kestrel
  • New Description: Gunship: Strong anti-ground. No anti-air capabilities.
  • New Model
  • HP: 100 -> 250
  • Metal Cost: 540 -> 270
  • Acceleration: 75 -> 750 m/s/s
  • Brake Rate: 75 – 750 m/s/s
  • Turn Speed: 90 -> 45 deg/s
  • Can now also target Water Surface, Sea Floor

In the 67342 Build the build cost was changed from 1,440 metal to 960 metal.

In the Planetary Annihilation Release Build 71544, the health was increased from 240 to 300.
